Sims Pacific Metals - Smashfest 20TEN - Press release

Smashfest 2010 - Documentary Premier
Hey Punters,

Well, we did it. The fantastic team at Digital Ninja have completed the doco of this year’s event and it will screen live on TV3 this Sunday at 3pm.
Not to be ones to mess with tradition, like other years, we are holding our world premier of this doco at the Waikaraka Clubrooms. This will start at 1PM Sunday 30th, with the viewing of some footage of past years events, culminating in the viewing of the 2010 doco. We will be supplying a simple BBQ (sausages & bread), and more importantly, the bar will be open for business.

This doco was only made possible by the fine people at Sims Pacific Metals, Midas Onehunga & Gutter Whiskers and features these three companies, affording them some serious TV exposure (something to think about for next year).

Please bring your family and friends and reply to this email with your numbers if you are coming (we don’t want to run out of sausages).....
Please also pass this email onto anyone you think will want to come along on Sunday or any petrol heads the may want to get a taste of what they missed out on.

Thanks
Smashfest Team

Smashfest 2010 Post Event Report.

WOW, what a night. We would like to start by mentioning our main sponsors Sims Pacific Metals & minor sponsors Midas & Gutter Whiskers. Without you, the Documentary we are producing would not have been possible.

The event was again a sellout, with many many people unfortunately missing out on the action. We will endeavor to create a lager capacity by the time Smashfest 2011 rolls around.
The line at the gate at 4pm
The calm before the storm
After an exciting start with the Heli-Car drop, and some awesome action from the Monster truck & the 19 Tonne Tank, we experienced some rain. This put lots of the acts on hold, as the track was simply too wet for cars to get enough traction to perform the stunts safely. What these guys are doing out there is dangerous and we will not risk their safety for the sake of some small delays.
Lift-off
The Drop
The Big Ben burnout Utes, a beautiful Camaro, a Falcon and a mean looking Bedford van combined to give us some tire popping & smoking skids. On a track that was wet from the rain, the still managed to create an incredible amount of smoke.

Once things dried of a little, the big stunt of the night went ahead, and what an amazing job Jody Hooker from Stunt Corp did. That jump into the bus was simply spectacular, and it made the TV3 6pm news. (Does anyone have any good images of this? We have lots of video but no images).
Derby Time
Clown
The usual spectacular fireworks display was followed by another massive demolition derby. We didn't break the world record again, but it was still a visual spectacular all the way. There was a short ambulance break, with derby driver Corey (a flag Marshall at the park) took a big hit & was KO'd in his car during the derby. It was a good rattle, but he is fine now with no after effect's. The derby soon resumed and Wayne Butler came out as this years $10,000 winner.

Sponsorship opportunity for inclusion into Smashfest 2010 Documentary
The Smashfest team has recently secured the assistance of a TV production company to film and produce a 1 hour documentary on Smashfest 2010.
This show will follow the trials and tribulations of 6 derby drivers (& their company) as they build and ultimately race the cars in Smashfest 2010. In order to top up the funding to help pay for this project, we created 6 equally priced sponsorship packages. These packages are very affordable, of which 4 have already been sold. If you would like further info on how your company can be part of this amazing opportunity send your details through to info@smashfest.co.nz

Rules Update 1
(e) Full harness seat belt (4-5 point) to be fitted to driver's seat and securely mounted. Seat belts
must not be mounted to the roof. NO RETRACTABLE SEAT BELTS allowed. Two sets of inertia reel road belts are suitable for use in Speedway New Zealand Demolition Derbies, provided they are fully extended or locked.

Rules Update 2
Demolition Derby Rule – Air conditioning
It is illegal in some jurisdictions to de-gas a vehicle air conditioning system in a non-approved manner. Hence there is a need to clarify that all Demolition Derby vehicles must have their air-conditioning systems discharged (if fitted). The new Derby Technical clause is
(p) Air conditioning systems to be discharged.

Smashfest 2010 Updates

New Zealand’s richest Demolition Derby and metal crunching spectacular Smashfest, is back and confirmed. It will (as per usual) be held over Easter Weekend – 3rd April 2010, 7pm at Waikaraka Park, Onehunga, Auckland

Here is a sneak peek at some of the awesome action and car crushing mayhem to expect.

Demolition Derby
We have broken the world record for the most cars in a demolition derby for the last 3 years running. There is no reason to back off now.
Because of the past success of Smashfest, not to mention the $10,000 prize money,
we are getting interest from excited derby fans and drivers all over the country and even have a couple of drivers coming from Australia to compete. This is without
question NZ's Premier Derby Event and we challenge you to find anything that compares
anywhere in the world.

Races - all cars will be eligible to enter the following Jalopy Races - (5-7pm) & (during the main show)

Fireworks and Pyrotechnics
Our legendary fireworks are the talk of the town and this year we’re going even bigger!   Consider the anti upped.  Consider the stakes raised.  Consider the budget blown!  We are here to achieve the WOW factor so don’t miss it.

Clowns and Candy
You have to love the funny mayhem-makers, especially when they’re loaded with 100kg of lollies to scramble.

Also Featuring:
Auckland Smashfest Street Stock Champs
Fender Bender Nationals
Teams Racing
Outlaw Burnout comp – the Biggest, Badest cars you will find anywhere
After party in the clubrooms

Keen to give driving a go?
Because of Smashfest's past success - not to mention the $10 000 prize money - we're getting interest from as far as Australia to participate. You don't need any race experience to give it a go. Part of the driver entry fee includes a one-day race licence. Take last year’s winner Paul Bartley for example, having never raced before, he walked away with $10 000 after being the last car moving in the Smashfest 09 bash for cash.
